Here is what I can offer you to help you on your writing journey. I primarily work with fiction writers, but I am also open to working with memoir, narrative nonfiction, and some other types of nonfiction. Contact me using the form at the bottom of the page, and we can figure out how I can best help you!
Package 1: Story Foundations
We all know what happens when you try to build something without a strong foundation- things eventually collapse because of lack of planning. This package is for the writer who already has a strong story idea in mind…but isn’t quite sure how to go about organizing their thoughts, starting their story, or making sure that all of the elements that are needed for a knockout story are there. Or perhaps you’ve started your story, but you know that you missed a few key things and want to get back to the basics.
In this package, we will spend 6 weeks working through all of the important elements that will allow you to move forward and write a story that WORKS! We will spend 4 of the weeks working through the “Blueprint.” This is a comprehensive look at all aspects of your story, including things like the “why” behind writing your story, your intended audience, genre, who should be telling your story, and so much more. We will spend the final 2 weeks creating an “Inside Outline”- an amazing tool that will make sure your story has the necessary narrative drive to keep readers turning the pages.
Each week there will be an assignment to be completed and turned in at the start of the week. I will provide written feedback on all of the assignments each week. At the end of weeks 2, 4, and 6, we will get on a 45 minute phone call and discuss the assignments.
Cost: $699
Reward: Knowing that you have a solid foundation on which to build an incredible story!
Package 2: Manuscript Evaluation
You have a complete draft of your story. DO A HAPPY DANCE!!! CELEBRATE!!! Honestly, please stop and celebrate if you wrote a complete draft of the story that you’re burning to tell. So many writers stop short of reaching this milestone. It takes effort, focus, and determination to get a draft done. But once you’re done with the first draft…where do you go next?
For the serious writer, a manuscript evaluation is what you need next. Having a book coach’s eyes on your entire story, to show you both what is working well and what is in need of fixing up, is critical in saving you time from writing draft after draft that doesn’t quite click. Everyone needs outside opinions on their own writing. This is where I can help you.
A manuscript evaluation will include:
Inline comments throughout your entire manuscript (Not all book coaches will provide this, but I enjoy this part of the work and I am generous with my comments throughout your story.)
An evaluation letter (typically 3-5 pages) that outlines what is working, and what still needs work. I utilize a “stoplight method” so that you know what is in critical need of work (red light issues), what is problematic but not in a major way (yellow light issues), and what little things can be fixed to take your story from good to excellent (green light issues).
A one hour phone call, after you’ve had time to read over my written comments and letter, to discuss everything and plan next steps for your story. You will leave this call with a plan to move forward!
Cost: $0.01/word ($750 minimum)
Reward: You will walk away with a solid plan for revising your story and moving forward with a story that will captivate your readers!
Package 3: Monthly Coaching
To work with me on monthly coaching, you need to have either completed Package 1 or Package 2. Those packages set the stage for productive monthly coaching.
Are you serious about getting your story written, and you’d like ongoing coaching as you go? If you want to be accountable to someone to turn in your pages, want someone to be cheering you on and pulling you out of any writing slumps, want someone to have some tough love for when you feel like giving up, and want continued support in writing your best story, then this package is for you. I will be your project manager, cheerleader, and tough love teacher.
Monthly coaching includes:
The submission of up to a set number of pages each week, to be turned in early in the week.
I will return written feedback to you within 48 hours of receiving your submission. Inline comments will be provided on your pages, as well as an email summary of what I saw that week.
We will either get on a 30 minute call at the end of each week to discuss your work, or a 1 hour call every other week. We will discuss what works best for both of us and for your story/writing needs.
You may email questions to me in between our phone calls, and I will respond promptly. I may suggest holding off on discussing a big issue until our next call.
Cost: For submission of up to 10 pages weekly: $600/month
For submission of up to 15 pages weekly: $800/month
For submission of up to 20 pages weekly: $1000/month
Writers need to commit to at least 4 months of coaching. Most writers will need more than 4 months to work through a draft or revision; 2 month increments of coaching can be added on once a writer has completed 4 months of coaching.
Reward: Writing the best book that you are capable of writing! You have invested in your own success, and you’ve put a stake in the ground that you want to make your story come to life. Congratulations!!!
*If you’re not quite sure if you’re ready to invest in a book coach, or you just want to “test out the waters” of what it’s like to have a coach, check out my smaller package: the “Start Out Strong” package is only $149, and requires no long term commitment. **Many of the amazing strategies that I use for successful book coaching, such as the Blueprint, “stoplight method”, and Inside Outline come from working with the amazing Jennie Nash. I am an Author Accelerator Advanced Certified Book Coach, and Jennie created and taught these methods in her courses.
